Seniors’ dance

ALL SENIORS are invited to join the West Arthur Seniors Group (WAGS) on June 1 at 10am in the Darkan Town Hall.

There will be a demonstration of ballroom dancing from local couple Dorothy and Richard Twell followed by a boot-scooting group from Bunbury and Donnybrook.

Morning tea will be provided.

Arthur River morning tea success

THE morning tea for cancer research at Arthur River was a great success with $1300 raised.

A total of $1000 was donated to Zac Hart and his family and the balance was forwarded to the Cancer Foundation.

The doll competition was won by Maree O’Connell with Denise Gooding second and the wood raffle was won by Mrs Mort of Kojonup and the fruit cake raffle was won by Susan Duffield.

Table tennis tournament

THERE will be a show down of table tennis talent on June 24 at The Shed.

The junior championship will be for youngsters aged eight to 12 and 13-16 years will be from 11am-1pm.

This will be followed by the open competition for 17 years and above and seniors 65 years and above.

There will be a small fee of $2 for junior and $4 for open participants to buy new bats.

Juniors will be best of three sets and a final three sets to 11 and open will be best of three sets to 15 and final five sets to 15.

Nominations to Wayne Stockley at Rarebits on Burrows by June 22.

There will be practice sessions on June 5, 12 and 19 from 3.30-5pm for juniors and 5-7pm for open.

Lucky Shed membership winners

THE open day at The Shed recently allowed some great survey feedback to be completed.

There were five lucky winners of a Shed social membership for the remainder of 2012, so congratulations to John Clarke, Janet Saunders, Gloria Steddy, Pam Stockley and Wayne Stockley.

Winter sundowner

CIRCLE July 4 on the calendars for the next sundowner at Kids Central.

Starting at 4pm, there will a gourmet sweet and savoury pie night.

Computer courses

FREE basic computer courses are back on at the West Arthur Community Resource Centre (CRC).

There will be a repeat of the last series of topics, such as how to get photos off the camera and onto the computer, how to use Skype, along with some new sessions on email and shopping online.

The short workshops are on Thursdays from 10-11am and begin on June 14 with a session on the new CRC Kindle.

Darkan Caravan Park

PLANNING is under way for the redevelopment of the Darkan Caravan Park.

Council is currently giving consideration as to whether the park should remain in its current location or be relocated.

Alternative sites that have been suggested include the old tennis/basketball courts or the old bowling club site.

Duranillin Hall and toilets

THE new Duranillin public toilets are under construction and should be finished before the end of June.

The shire is providing labour and equipment for the project and materials and contractors are being funded by Royalties for Regions.

The shire has also agreed to fund the replacement of guttering on the Duranillin Hall.

Badminton resumes

THE winter season of badminton at the Darkan Town Hall has started and players can go along at 7.30pm every Wednesday night for a hit.

Previous and new players are welcome and there are spare racquets available if people don’t have their own.

THERE will be mixed scroungers every Sunday at 10am at the Darkan Bowling Club.

Church news

THE Uniting Church meets on the first and third Sunday of the month at 9am and the next service is on June 3.

KYB is held on Tuesday at 9.30am at Duranillin School.

The Catholic Church meets on the first and third Sunday of the month at 8am and the next service is on June 3.

The Anglican Church meets on the second Sunday of the month and the fourth Sunday at 8am at Darkan and the third Sunday of the month at 8am at Arthur River.

The next service in Arthur River will be on June 17 at 8am.
