Fourteen members and potential members attended the meeting, where Jim Adams was appointed as the local manager (Wagin) and Jeremy Blair (Kojonup) as the training officer.

Both men have been part of other SES units within the state and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their respective positions.

It was also decided that Sue Eastcott from Katanning would assist with administration for the unit.

A training calendar was discussed at the meeting, with induction sessions to be held on the third Monday of each month starting on June 18.

Members were measured for their personnel protective equipment (PPE) orange uniform and boots and these will be delivered to the unit ready for the June meeting.

The SES unit currently includes members from the surrounding areas of West Arthur, Kojonup and Katanning, giving them extensive local knowledge.

SES district manager Lynda Elms and local community emergency services manager Cindy Pearce, along with unit members, are currently investigating locations for the unit’s headquarters and are in discussion with property owners to secure a building.

Members of the community and surrounding areas who are interesting in becoming an SES member are asked to contact the Shire of Wagin for an information pack.
