THIS week saw five players turn out for scroungers in ideal golf weather and it was pleasing to see the course greening up nicely after the previous week’s rain.

It was decided that stroke would be a good idea and allow the players some practise for the weekend round.

Bob Stephens had a great game and was the winner of the day with Mark Haverkort runner-up.

Saturday was the first qualifying round for the club championships and was sponsored by Alan and Fiona Retallack.

The club thanked them for their support, although prior commitments prevented Alan form playing.

Twenty-seven players teed off and the smiles on some faces around the clubhouse afterwards indicated some respectable scores.

A-grade was won by the captain Phil Sprigg with an 80 gross, nett 67 and he also bagged a couple of birdies along the way.

Runner-up was the consistent Reece Taylor with a gross 81 and nett 69.

B-grade saw the sponsor’s son Jason, return an excellent score of 88 gross, nett 64 to win the grade, in what was an awesome display.

Runner-up was decided on yet another countback with Ken George narrowly beating Andrew Gath.

Ken had a 96 gross, nett 71 and Andrew a gross 93 nett 71.

Next Saturday will be a Stableford event sponsored by Wagin Newsagency.

Lastly, there was an error in last week’s notes with Reece Taylor credited with being runner-up at scroungers when Bob Stephens actually took the prize.
