The Wagin Hospital was the happy recipient of a number of donations recently which came about as a result of last October’s inaugural Wagin Amazing Chase.
The event, which was spearheaded by Wagin woman Jill Forsythe, involved a day of fun car antics and an auction of donated goods, all aimed at raising money for local charities.
The Wagin Hospital was pleased to receive a number of items including a fridge, microwave, fold-up bed, sleepwear, stereo, oximeters, tympanic thermometers and three flat-screen televisions.
In total the hospital received $2656 worth of goods, with a further $1000 going to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, $500 to St John’s Ambulance and $200 to Waratah Lodge.
The Wagin St John’s Ambulance was also pleased with its donation.
Secretary and treasurer of the group Anne Hill said that it was fantastic to receive the money.
“We don’t receive funding, so every little bit helps and it is greatly appreciated,” she said.
The group had recently been unsuccessful in an application for a Lottery West grant, so the money came at a fortuitous time.
The group has a meeting in three weeks, at which point it will decide what to do with the money, although it hopes to put it towards buying training equipment.
Ms Forsythe thanked the Wagin community for getting behind the Amazing Chase and supporting such a worthy cause.
“Our sincere thanks go to the local businesses that donated prizes, the Wagin Shire, and the competitors that made it such a successful event,” she said.
The Amazing Chase Committee comprising Jill Forsythe, Fiona Kirk, Tammy Broom, Bron Hegarty, Glen Ward, Jen Bickers, Glenn Pantall and Jodie Jenkins were pleased with their fundraising efforts and happy the town had benefitted from such a fun event.
The day was a resounding success and a great family day out and Ms Forsythe is confident they will work towards another event in the future.
